So now Radiohead are “p****d off” that the MP3s off Hail To Thief are circulating round the Internet. It seems that the copies doing the rounds are actually very rough mixes and Radiohead are now offended and angry that these rough works are in the public domain. I suspect that the band doth protest too much.
OK, EMI have issued cease and desist notices to people hosting the files but the label is always likely to be less enthusiastic than the artist. Their bottom line is based purely on CD sales. Radiohead also have merchandise and touring revenues, both of which are likely to benefit from increased exposure via file sharing networks.
