Digital Charity

There may have been a few raised eyebrows when a number of months ago OD2’s mysterious ‘high street name’ retail partner turned out to be UK charity Oxfam, but today’s release of a digital download album by Oxfam for the Sudan crisis illustrates the potential value of the digital medium to the charity’s fund raising efforts. In a recent report I examined the particular suitability of digital distribution for smaller independent labels because of the lower costs involved compared to physical production and distribution. Exactly the same applies to producing a digital album for fund raising.

The initiative has got a lot of prime TV exposure but unfortunately at the time of writing this blog I could find no trace or mention of the album on either Oxfam’s site or their digital music site
