So the BPI has taken a further tranche of music file sharers to court. The difference with this batch is that they are music up-loaders. But is this having any impact? At Jupiter we are currently in the process of fielding a major survey of European consumer attitudes and behaviour and the preliminary results suggest that music file sharing has actually remained static over the last 12 months. Given the potential damage legal action can do to consumer perceptions of the music industry, it is perhaps time to for the strategy to be under some careful cost / benefit analysis.
The complete results of the consumer survey will be available to JupiterResearch clients.
