This is UK centric post, so you’ll just have to grin and bear the analogy that will probably wash straight over your head is you’re not a Brit!
Yesterday at his Labour Party speach Tony Blair referred to the changing nature of today’s digital world and cited the iPod as an example. Whilst this is shameless opportunism from Mr Blair to try to lend himself an air of youthful cool, it shows that the iPod is rapidly becoming synonymous with MP3 players, much in the way that Hoover has for vaccuum cleaners. All of which makes it that much harder for the competition to compete.
Maybe next Steve Jobs should see if the same approach works in reverse and his next satellite linked product launch start talking about the Blair government’s NHS reforms…somehow I don’t think it will have quite the same effect.
