Fair Use at Last

Two other really important aspects of the select committee report warrant a dedicated post: it recommends stronger measures for fighting piracy (which the music industry is in need of) and also legalization of home copying. The latter is of course essential for using MP3 players but there is currently no Fair Use term in British law, despite ex-BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson telling the select committee that the British music industry would essentially turn a blind eye to such activity until the law changed.

Even though it’s not going to make any discernable difference to music fans lives, a Fair Use clause is well over due in the UK….it’s certainly a long way from the “Home Taping is Killing Music’ campaign of the 80’s….
